The Athletes Unlimited Softball league, AKA the AUSL, AKA the nation’s premier professional womens fastpitch softball league, finally has its championship matchup set.
The AUSL does something a little different for its playoffs. It plays a 25 game regular season schedule, and teams with the top 3 out of 8 total teams measured by their win loss records moves on to the playoffs.
The team with the best overall record gets an automatic ticket to the championship series. The 2nd and 3rd place teams, no matter their records, play a one game playoff for the right to face off against the team with the best regular season record.
The two teams in the championship play a best of three series to determine the champion.
This year, the defending champion Utah Talons were the #1 seed with a 16-9 record. The Chicago Bandits were also 16-9 but the Talons owned the tiebreaker, and the Bandits fell to the #2 seed.
Last night, the #2 Bandits and #3 Cascade played their one game playoff and the Bandits won 6-5 in a thrilling 11 inning game to advance to the championship series.
Last year we had the same matchup, Talons vs Bandits, in the championship series, with the Talons coming out on top.
For this year’s matchup, the Bandits’ league best offense squares off against the Talons’ league best pitching. Skylar Wallace and Sami Williams head up the Bandits’ potent offensive attack, while Montana Fouts and Georgina Corrick anchor the Talons’ stifling pitching staff.
Game 1 airs on ABC, yes that ABC, on Saturday July 25 at 1:00PM EST. Don’t miss out!
