Jennie Finch is Finishing Up Her Stellar Career with Style

OKLAHOMA CITY  Proving its domination over Team Japan last month at the ISF Championship was no fluke, Team USA shut out its archrival 5-0 last night at the World Cup of Softball in Oklahoma City.

The US has had Japan’s number lately, and with each successive victory the taste of its 2008 Olympic loss to the Land of the Rising Sun is a little less bitter.

Last month it was Cat Osterman on the mound for the Americans; this time around, with Osterman sidelined due to injury, the nod was given to Jennie Finch.

Finch had announced she will retire from international competition at the conclusion of this tournament, so she was anxious to prove she still has what it takes—and she did just that, taking a no-hit performance into the fifth inning.

Jennie has also been on fire lately at the plate, smashing a home run yesterday against the Canadians and singling twice today.

The Red, White & Blue will square off against Japan tonight in a rematch—it will be interesting to see which of its remaining two pitchers, Monica Abbott or Eileen Canney, starts in the circle for Team USA. Read more.
